Edutainment: How a Jolt of Joy Outshines Jargon Every Time
For as long as I can remember, my communication style has been taking complex topics especially in tech, stripping out the jargon, and sprinkling a bit of humor.
My goal?
Clarity. Simplicity. No more glazed-over eyes, no more “Wait, what does that mean?” at the end of a conversation.
I took pride in it.
If someone walked away understanding something that used to confuse them, I felt like I’d done my job and humor would be how I would keep them listening and come back to hear me some more.
But then, something shifted. I realized I’m completely leaving humor out of my writing.
Just this week, I was on a call with my marketing and communication coach. Out of the blue, he asked:
“Are you edutaining your clients?” 🎤✨
I loved it immediately, the mash-up of education and entertainment. Edutainment. 💡
And that one question stopped me in my tracks.
Who cares? 🤔
Who actually cares about all the interesting and genuinely helpful knowledge communicated in a clear, jargon-free way?
Are people opening my emails or pausing their scrolls on social media, hoping to be educated about IT, security, or the latest tools?
Let’s be honest—they’re not.
If someone’s aiming for education, they’ll go to the official source, or better yet, just outsource the whole thing and bring someone in to solve it.
That realization landed hard.
I realized I wasn’t edutaining my readership.
I was making things clear, sure. But where was the fun?
Where was the personality, the spark, that jolt of happiness 🎉 that makes something stick not just in their mind, but in their mood?
I hadn’t been letting that show up in my writing or my delivery.
And honestly, it hit me:
That’s the magic.
That’s where your style, your tone, your brand, your true creativity actually lives.
It’s right there in how you make people feel. 😊
Because here’s the truth:
No matter what you produce, deliver, or bring to your clients…
They’re probably not as interested as you think in your knowledge, your craft, or your process.
They are interested in you!
What keeps them coming back, what makes your emails spark a smile, your calls remembered, and your relationship last, is how you deliver a jolt of joy in each interaction. 🌟
Edutainment. 🎬
Not just clarity, but a little spark.
Not just communicating but connecting.
So, how do we shift our conversations to make this the priority?
How do we become the person who gives someone that “I see what you did there” grin, or that little lift in their day, even while discussing—let’s face it—stuff that’s super exciting for us but possibly “whatever man” material for our audience?
I’m not saying every note needs a punchline or that you morph into a standup comic.
But I am saying: let a little more of your personality in.
Serve that delicious clarity as a cocktail with refreshing and cool ice cubes of charm.
If you want loyalty, attention, and engagement, make people feel happy to hear from you. 🥳
For me, this shift is happening right now.
I’m still working it out, still figuring out how to lace my writing with more of me that delivers a spark.
So
Who cares?
I do.
I care enough not just to educate, but to deliver that jolt of happiness each time we connect. 💥
What about you?
Do you catch yourself sticking to “clear and helpful,” but leaving out the fun?
Could your next interaction use a touch more edutainment? 🎈
