I just finished watching “Franklin” on AppleTV+, and it was a great reminder that America’s freedom wasn’t only fought on the battlefields. The finesse of intelligent men such as Benjamin Franklin, forming alliances with his charm and wit at extravagant dinner parties, played a crucial role. Duchesses wore towering wigs with miniature ships, and dukes wore their curly perukes, drowning their skin in potions. Alliances were forged, and nobility all the way up to the kingdom itself were convinced to support America’s fight for freedom, with little to show in return other than these incredible men’s words.
The captivating, clever, and eloquent verbal sparring in the show highlighted the power of words and their ability to change the future for better or worse. Today, although we battle misinformation spread by politicians, hackers, and random failures of AI, meaningful, witty, and deep exchanges of words and ideas remain extremely powerful and are the best way to make a positive change.
I hope this 4th of July, you step away from work and disconnect from technology to gather with friends and family, celebrating our freedom and enjoying inspiring, uplifting, and thought-provoking conversations. Happy 4th of July!
