Hello February,
For those of us dealing with the blessings of winter, February is often the toughest month. I do complain about it like many do, but I never let the cold or lack of sunshine take me down. I invest the “out on a nice day” hours on educating myself, discovering ways to improve Chat Tech for all of us, and work on home improvement projects. Seasons provide an opportunity for me to shift my focus throughout the year, which works great for me. Yet I don’t believe I have always been this way. I probably adopted this change after my first winter in Chicago. As the saying goes “when life gives you lemons…..”. In case you haven’t guessed it, this week I’m going to talk about optimism as today happens to be Optimists Day.
I do have my moments of sour face but I’m a self-proclaimed optimist. I love being able to find solutions during crises and turn things around. That’s magic! Being the first child of a younger couple with very limited means, I was also taught never to waste. So, when the current situation can’t be turned around, I go for those delicious ripe lessons. Fair warning, they often can’t be seen through the blurry lens of negativity!
Most of us are familiar with this epic quote by Epictetus “It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.” Reminding myself this quote often helps me snap out of the sour face, but recently reading this article helped me gained even more insight into why I love positivity so much.
At times we may need time and space to go through something and digest. That is okay. The tunnel we are in may be dark but no tunnel stretches long enough to go around the world. There will always be a light at the end of it.
May joy chase you everywhere you go, see you next week!
