You don’t know what you don’t know

You don’t know what you don’t know

Many people I know set ambitious New Year’s resolutions and are determined to stick to them. I truly admire their dedication! However, I, on the other hand, often struggle to follow through with such resolutions. Therefore, this year, I’ve decided to take a different approach by focusing on clearing out the small daily annoyances that tend to pester me. This morning, I have made a realization that amidst our daily responsibilities and chase of bigger goals, we tend to accept and live with the little things that persistently nag at us. Think about all those little things you consistently put off or find ways to work around. It could be that pile of items in your car trunk that you keep meaning to sort through, the incessant pop-up notifications on your computer screen whenever you open an app, or that one thing you see every day and promise yourself you’ll tackle over the weekend, yet it never happens. These seemingly insignificant stressors can keep your stress levels elevated throughout the day! But why did I choose the title “You Don’t Know What You Don’t Know” for this article? The reason is simple; you can choose to address these little stressors that bother you daily, but true success comes from knowing when to ask for help. Let me share an example from my own experience. I’ve been using a Mac OS feature called “Spaces” for multitasking for as long as I can remember. In theory, it sounded like a great idea, but in practice, it often left me frustrated as I lost track of which app was running where. Just last week, I got up from my desk and vented my frustration to Daniel, our lead tech. He offered me a simple tip on how to use this feature properly, and it instantly transformed my experience. Something that had been a constant source of irritation became a massive time-saver! So, my message to you this week is straightforward: don’t let the little things eat away at you, especially those that you encounter daily. Allow yourself the luxury of the first few months of this year to clear away those minor annoyances that keep dragging you down day in and day out. Don’t know how to tackle them? Don’t hesitate to ask for help! Replace that cringe with a smile every time you open your trunk or run that application. It’s well worth it What’s the first small task you want to tackle this week?
